Golden & Silver Falls

Length: 1.1 mile (one way)/ .5 miles (one way)              

Difficulty: Moderate

Surface: Dirt

Access:  

From  “Y” intersection at south end of Coos Bay on US 101, follow sign to  Allegany.  Cross Isthmus  Slough Bridge, turn north on 6th Avenue, go 0.5 miles and turn  east on Coos River Road. Following sign to Allegany, cross the Chandler  Bridge on North Bank Road.  Continue past Allegany 10 miles, following signs to state  park.  Trails begin from  parking area.

Setting and Attractions: 

Spectacular  waterfalls with trails along creeks and beautiful views of forest.  Vegetation includes Sword fern, old-growth Douglas fir, Big Leaf Maple,  and Myrtle trees.  Facilities  include picnic tables, fire rings and a restroom.

Golden & Silver Falls: 

Cross  footbridge to access upper and lower trails to Golden & Silver Falls.  Following the  upper trail you come to a view of Silver Falls from its base. Continue up  the trail to access the top of Golden Falls (1.1 miles from parking  lot).  The lower trail leads  from the picnic area to a viewpoint near the base of Golden Falls with  beautiful views of old growth forest along the way.  Golden Falls is 375 feet high and  was named after Coos Bay physician Charles Golden.

Silver  Falls: 

From the picnic area a .5 mile trail follows the old road  along the west side of Silver Creek to a viewpoint of Silver Falls looking  across the ravine.  Be careful  of slippery rocks!  Pets must be kept  on a 6’ or shorter leash at all times.
