Access: From Reedsport travel on US 101 13.5 miles north to Siltcoos Beach and Sand Access Road. Turn left (west) on road and continue one mile to Stagecoach trailhead located on the left-hand side. Trailheads are also located at Lagoon campground and Waxmyrtle Campground.
Setting and Attractions: Stagecoach trailhead commemorates the 19th Century Beach Stagecoach Route between Coos Bay and Florence. The trail affords outstanding views of an estuary, ocean, and freshwater lagoon. Wetlands support song birds, beaver, deer and waterfowl. The coastal evergreen forest has nice views of the ocean including huckleberry and rhododendron.
· Waxmyrtle Trail: The trail leads across the bridge then turns south, bordering the picturesque Siltcoos River estuary (side trail that re-connects with main trail) and ends at the beach. Sections of beach are closed from March 15th to September 15th to help protect the western snowy plover habitat.
·Chief Tsiltcoos Trail: Located across the road from the Stagecoach trailhead, this trail may be hiked as a loop or as a destination to the Driftwood II Campground, popular for off-road vehicle users. The trail winds up and down through a coastal evergreen forest, with an inner loop around the hillside’s peak.
·Lagoon Trail: The trail meanders across wooden boardwalks and paths alongside the Siltcoos River Lagoon for close-up viewing of plants and wildlife including beavers, nutrias, ducks, herons, and bitterns. Once known as the “River of No Return” trail because it follows an old arm of the Siltcoos river that was cut off when the Siltcoos Beach Road was built.
